Behind the screens: Clarify Design

Are you interested in learning a little more about Clarify Design and what we’re all about? If you are, congratulations, you are in luck! Go get your blue light blocking glasses and get ready to get the scoop on the who, the what, and the why of Clarify.
How we came to be
In December of 2022, my old coworker and friend, Luke, reached out to me asking if I wanted to catch up over a video call. It had been almost 3 years since Luke and I left our full-time positions at a large outdoor adventure camp amidst the global pandemic to search for new opportunities in different parts of the country. Being very curious as to what Luke wanted to talk to me about, I agreed to catch up.
Talking with Luke, we each learned that we had both been freelancing independently since we had left our previous jobs. Luke mentioned that he was looking to start a Webflow development agency for outdoor brands and he asked me if I had the bandwidth to work on his agency’s brand identity and help with the design of the agency’s website in a freelance capacity. I was psyched about the opportunity to work with Luke again, and accepted the gig, unaware that I was charting a course to something bigger.
By the time we had nailed down the visual brand identity for the business and we had built the agency’s first website, we were both officially co-founders of Clarify Design.
Why “Clarify”?
We chose the name “Clarify” for our business because clarity is what we offer the clients we work with. The services we offer to our clients extend past the hard deliverables, and reach more into the big-picture outcomes of the work we do. Simply put, we exist to help the outdoor brands we work with clarify their mission, values, services, products, and experiences.
Webflow agency for outdoor brands
A struggle that so many agencies run into early on is selecting a consistent niche of work to pursue. Fortunately for us, the decision to pursue outdoor brands was in both of our hearts from the beginning and we saw an unmet need in the outdoor community.
With both of us coming from professional and personal backgrounds that emphasized the spectacle of the outdoors, we knew that this was where we were supposed to be. We found that many outdoor brands were failing to convey their mission, values, services, products, and experiences online in a way that provided an accurate representation of what they had to offer.
The people who work in the outdoors industry are one of the primary reasons why we chose this path. People who work in the outdoors industry are some of the most hard-working, dedicated, and joyful people on the planet—their energy keeps us going day-in and day-out. That’s why we decided to step in and take action. Our purpose is to serve the people who serve the outdoors industry and help others experience everything the outdoors has to offer.
Our people
Speaking of people, here's a bit more about our own team:
Luke Frauhiger
Luke is a full-stack developer and a full-stack outdoorsman. Hailing from Nashville, Luke makes writing clean code and skiing down black diamonds look easy. Luke communicates and works with precision and clarity, living up to our company’s namesake. When Luke isn’t “hacking into the mainframe” (his words, not mine), he regularly attends workouts at his local CrossFit gym, is always down for a game of pickup Rugby, and enjoys spending time with his wife and their two pups: Pippin and Jasper.

Brennan Frew
I’m a product designer and Webflow developer who needs to get outside every day otherwise it will directly affect my mood. Based in Albuquerque, I constantly draw visual inspiration from New Mexico’s beautiful landscapes—I have eye-dropped sunsets for color palette inspiration more times than I am willing to admit. When I'm not putting rectangles inside of other rectangles, I try to be an avid runner, enjoy a good game of volleyball, and love trekking New Mexico's trails with my pup, Muffin.

Pippin
Pippin is Luke’s Pomeranian—he manages Clarify’s financials (Pippin DOES NOT manage our financials, he is a dog. For legal reasons, we need to say that is a joke). Pippin enjoys being fluffy, bork bork bork, and being emperor over all of humanity.

Jasper
Jasper is Luke’s Miniature Greyhound, but you might recognize him from his breakout role in the 2002 film, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets as the character “Dobby”. Jasper enjoys running at the speed of light, blankets, and looking just a little bit nervous 24/7.

Muffin
Muffin is my [Brennan’s] dog. No one is quite sure what kind of breed/mix she is, so she is fondly referred to as “rat dog”. Muffin enjoys trying to chase rabbits while on a walk, going to her grandma's house to play with her dog cousins, and looking like a 40lb Costco rotisserie chicken.

That’s a wrap!
A developer, a designer, three pups of questionable dignity, and a whole lot of love for the outdoors. If you think we'd be a good fit for your brand, we'd love to chat.
